The population of Bawtry is approximateley
4,000 - The 2006 Electorate was 2,768.
The Council is Comprised of 13 elected Councillors. Elections
take place every 4 years. Next Election is Due in May 2007
Casual vacancies for councillors occasionally arise. The procedure
is that the Clerk gives notice of the vacancy on the notice board
and if 10 residents so request DMBC Legal Section in writing, then
DMBC has to hold an election. If no election is called then the town
council may fill the vacancy by co-option.
Each year the councillors elect a Town Mayor and a Deputy Town Mayor..
In Bawtry members represent the community on their own behalf.
